Let’s be clear, while I’m not personally advocating for drug use, I am a huge proponent of these two rap icons and would choose their cinematic endeavors over mainstream pop star vehicles any day.

If you appreciate the comedic stylings of Meth and Red or possess a penchant for absurd humor, you’re in for a treat. They embody Silas and Jamal, two characters whose lives revolve around cannabis and carnal pursuits. The plot kicks off when a freak accident leads to the demise of Silas’s friend. Subsequently, Silas and Jamal smoke a uniquely potent strain of marijuana, granting them the ability to communicate with the deceased, specifically Ivory, Silas’s departed friend. Ivory, now a ghostly guide, provides them with all the answers to the SATs. This newfound academic advantage allows them to gain admission to any university, and they naturally choose the prestigious Harvard University.
Once enrolled at Harvard, Silas and Jamal proceed to inject their distinctive personalities and unconventional perspectives into the hallowed halls of academia, much to the chagrin of Dean Cain (played by Obba Babatunde), a character ironically named after the actor known for portraying Superman. The how high movie is packed with ludicrous scenarios. One particularly memorable instance involves their desperate quest for more of their special marijuana, leading them to exhume the remains of President John Quincy Adams in the hopes that his brainpower can aid them in their studies. Another bizarrely funny moment features a ticket scalper’s extreme reaction to witnessing his bicycle being destroyed. The film thrives on its sheer outlandishness.
Surprisingly, the acting in how high movie is genuinely effective, and the characters are vibrant and engaging. The supporting cast is also noteworthy, featuring appearances from the legendary hip-hop group Cypress Hill and familiar faces from NBC sitcoms, including Anna-Marie Horsford (from Amen), Fred Willard (of DC Follies fame), and Lark Voorhies, best known as Lisa from Saved By The Bell.
