Hello everyone! Sean here, your art instructor from how.edu.vn. Today, we’re diving into a fun and festive drawing lesson: How To Draw A Turkey! This easy-to-follow guide is perfect for beginners, kids, and anyone wanting to sketch their own Thanksgiving centerpiece.
I’ll be demonstrating digitally on my tablet so you can clearly see each step, but you can absolutely follow along with just a pencil and paper. For an even more interactive experience, try using the Da Vinci Eye App on your iOS or Android device. This app is a fantastic tool for tracing and learning drawing techniques quickly and effectively.
Let’s begin our turkey drawing with three simple circles. These will act as the foundation for the turkey’s body, its large, fan-like tail feathers, and its smaller head.
Next, we’ll start connecting these shapes to give our turkey form. Draw lines to join the head to the body, creating the neck. Then, sketch out a large wing on the side of the body. Don’t worry about details yet; we’re just focusing on the basic structure.
Our turkey is starting to take shape! Now, let’s refine these basic shapes and add more definition. We’ll round out the body and head, making the transitions smoother and more natural.
Now we’ll work on the turkey’s impressive tail feathers. Starting from the base of the tail circle, draw feather shapes radiating outwards, similar to sun rays. Remember to curve them slightly to follow the natural shape of the turkey’s body. This will give the tail a full and realistic appearance.
Let’s move back to the head and add a rounded face. And of course, we can’t forget the wattle – that distinctive red piece of skin that hangs from the turkey’s beak. This adds character and makes it clearly recognizable as a turkey.
It’s time to inject some personality and life into our turkey! Let’s add details like eyes and beak. To make our drawing more engaging, we can also add a simple environment. I’m adding a shadow underneath the turkey to ground it and give it dimension.
To further enhance the Thanksgiving theme, I’m adding some fall pumpkins around our turkey. You can also add elements like fallen leaves, corn, or even draw another turkey friend to keep it company! Get creative and personalize your artwork.
Finally, we’ll add shading and details to complete our turkey drawing. I’m adding feather patterns on the body and tail, and using cross-hatching to create shading and depth. Remember, turkeys have lots of feathers, so a sketch-like effect with shading can really enhance the texture and make your drawing look more realistic.
Because of the feathered texture of a turkey, using sketch-like strokes for shading is more effective than trying to smooth everything out. This technique helps to build up the texture and gives a more natural feel to your drawing.
And as always, don’t forget to sign your artwork! You’ve done an awesome job learning how to draw a turkey. Give yourself a pat on the back! 🙂
