AirTags are designed to be linked to a single Apple ID. If you’re intending to use an AirTag that was previously used by someone else, it’s essential that they first remove the AirTag from their Apple ID. However, if the previous owner has removed the AirTag from their account but was not within Bluetooth range of the device, you’ll need to manually reset the AirTag before you can pair it with your own devices. This reset process ensures the AirTag is no longer associated with the previous user and is ready for a new connection.
Here’s a straightforward guide on how to reset your AirTag:
-
Begin by firmly pressing down on the polished stainless steel battery cover located on your AirTag. Rotate the cover in a counterclockwise direction until it comes to a stop.
-
Carefully remove the cover, and then take out the battery.
-
Place the battery back into the AirTag.
-
Press down on the battery. You should hear a sound, indicating that the battery is now connected.
-
Once the sound finishes, repeat the battery removal and replacement process four more times. Each time you press down on the battery after replacing it, listen for a sound. You should hear a total of five sounds. Notably, the fifth sound will be different from the first four. This distinct fifth sound confirms that your AirTag has been successfully reset and is now in pairing mode, ready to be connected to a new device.
-
To reassemble your AirTag, align the three tabs on the cover with the corresponding three slots on the AirTag.
-
Press down firmly on the cover to secure it in place.
-
Rotate the cover in a clockwise direction until it stops rotating, ensuring it is tightly closed.
Warning: Please be aware that AirTags, the battery cover, and the battery itself can pose a choking hazard or other injuries to small children. It is crucial to keep these items out of reach of young children.
